This painting was a lush paradise for me to work on in February, the photo itself taken in pursuit of escaping the foot of snow outside. I've visited Phipps Conservatory several times throughout my years in the city. Yet my experience there this winter was otherworldly amongst the 𝘊𝘭𝘪𝘮𝘣𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘖𝘳𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘥𝘴. There's nothing quite like it—smelling the greenery, feeling the humidity, and looking out the windows at the gray Pittsburgh sky and mountains of snow. I miss all the colors during this time of year, and it's wonderful that I live so close to a botanical garden I can visit anytime, as opposed to suffering through rural winters with very occasional department store visits to the garden section.
