Original artwork, oil pastel
This reference photo is one of my favorites that I took on my first trip to California. The last stop my girlfriend and I made was the Huntington Botanical Gardens, a lush and mystical paradise on a sprawling property. To capture the magic of the trip, I leaned into purple shadows for all of the bark and ππ°π°π΅π΄, which makes the composition of the picture so striking. Time always stops for me when Iβm whisked away to another world, far from all the noise of sirens and honking cars and the yelling of college students in Pittsburghβs Oakland neighborhood.
